We are a family of 6 from the Grand Rapids area. Our life is crazy busy with 2 sets of twins (yes, 2 sets:). We love lake life and enjoy tubing and skiing, and pontoon cruises. When not on the water in the lower peninsula, we like to recharge in Northern Michigan.

Relaxing and peaceful
Even as Wisconsinites, we were surprised by how much snow was still on the ground in late March. The lake was still frozen and the beach covered in snow. But the house was cozy and well supplied. The beds were probably the most comfortable I have ever slept on in a rental. It was clean and had plenty of space for the 4 of us. When it snowed for 2 days, we spent time putting together puzzles, playing board games and using the fooseball, shuffleboard and arcade games at the rental. Cooking was easy with everything provided, but be prepared to drive an hour for groceries. Most stores are still closed for the season, which we expected, but we did find some shops open in Sault Ste Marie. When the sun came out a few days into our trip, we visited the Tahquamenon State park and the upper and lower waterfalls. There was still quite a bit of snow on the trails, and feet of it near some of the observation areas. It was still a beautiful sight, though! Just beware that in the "off season" the lower falls road is closed off to cars and not maintained. It is open to foot traffic, but it is a mile walk to those trails. The snow melted a bit more a few days in and we were able to visit the beach and see the most beautiful night sky I have ever witnessed. We weren't able to see the aurora borealis, but others might have more luck! Overall, we had a pleasant stay, even with a few hiccups with checking in and the snowy drive. The owners were very responsive. We would definitely stay again! This place couldn't be any more perfect if we had owned and decorated it ourselves. Everything we could hope to have for our stay was there. From the plentiful kitchen of glasses, pots, pans, bowls, etc., to the blankets in the living room, games, emergency kit, brochure and highlights board, books, etc. This place was amazing. Best Airbnb we've ever stayed at. If you are planning a visit to Whitefish Point area, I strongly suggest staying at "The Bear Den". Amanda and Jason have put a lot of time into the place and it shows. They are A+ host IMO. Both of them are easy too communicate with, check in / check out was a breeze. The online concierge is very useful tool with loads of valuable information. The home and location made for a perfect Base Glamp with my group of outdoor adventurers. Hardest part of the experience was convincing myself it was time to leave. One Destination I definitely plan on returning too.
